Six Ways To Get Your Home Ready For The Autumn Season

After an unseasonably warm spell earlier this month, it appears we’re finally into the autumn season. We’ve set out six home maintenance tips to get your home prepared before the clocks go back:

1) Clean and Declutter

Start by giving your home a thorough cleaning. Remove any clutter, including summer items that won't be needed in the cooler months. Vacuum-pack your things away to save space and stay neat. Clean the windows to let in as much natural light as possible. A clean, organised home feels more inviting and spacious

2) Warm and Cosy Decor

Incorporate warm, autumnal colours and textures into your home's decor. Consider adding throw blankets, decorative pillows, and area rugs in rich, earthy tones like deep reds, oranges, and browns. These touches can make the space feel cosy and welcoming.

3) Maintenance Check

The autumn weather can be unpredictable, as we well know, so ensuring your home is well-maintained is a good idea.

  • Check the roof and gutters for any damage or clogs
  • Consider sealing any drafts to make the home more energy-efficient
  • Get your boiler checked
  • Bleed your radiators

4) Make Sure Your Home is Energy-Efficient

Did you know a good part of your heating could be escaping through leaks and drafts in windows and doors? Keep your heating bills low by checking gaps, cracks, and leaks around your home. Check out our blog Keep Cosy and Carry On for more info.

5) Tidy Up Your Garden

In the Autumn, you may think your lawn has stopped growing, but its roots are growing deeper to prepare for Winter - give it a final cut before you retire your lawnmower. When the leaves begin to turn orange, prune your trees and shrubs to encourage healthy growth. For more ways to love your garden check out our blog Autumn Garden Magic.

6) Seasonal Scents

Appeal to the senses by creating a warm and inviting atmosphere with autumn scents. This is your time to embrace all those classic autumnal aromas like apple cinnamon, pumpkin spice, or vanilla with your favourite candles. It’s time to embrace the PSL!

By following these five steps, you can make your home feel more inviting, whether you’re looking to sell now or enjoy your home with a cosy and well-maintained property for the autumn season.
